Identifying Your Face Shape
Now, comes the big question. How
to identify your face shape? Well, determining your face shape is a relatively
simple task, which can be done in a few simple steps.
Step 1: Stand in front of a large mirror with the hair pulled back
and tied with a band so that the forehead is clear and the hairline is visible.
Ensure proper overhead lighting over the mirror.
Step 2: Now, carefully trace the outline of your face onto the
mirror with the help of a chalk/ lipstick/ soap bar or an erasable marker.
Start from the tip of your chin, proceed up the edge of the face on one side
past the cheekbones, follow the curve of your hairline, to the other side of
your face and join back at the chin.
Step 3: Then, step back and examine closely the shape you have
traced. Check out where is it the widest? Is it long or short? What is the
shape of your forehead and jaw?
Based on the answers to these
questions, your face shape would broadly fit into one of the following
categories or it could be a combination of two shapes also.
Oblong: If the outline resembles a long rectangle with forehead,
cheekbones and jaw line even in width and rounded corners, then it’s an oblong
face.
Round: If the outline appears like a circle, with wide cheekbones
and tapering jaw and forehead, then it’s a round face.
Square: If the outline appears wide and angular at the jaw with a
wide forehead, then it’s a square face.
Oval: This is an ideal face shape. In this shape, the facial
contours will be evenly rounded and the outline will appear longer than wider.
Heart shaped: If the outline appears like an inverted triangle,
wider at the forehead, strong cheekbones and a small chin, then it’s a heart
shape. It’s characterized by a widow’s peak hairline.
Triangular: If the outline features a broad jaw and narrower
forehead, then it fits the bill.
Diamond: A diamond outline features wider cheek bones with narrower chin and forehead.
